Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Herman Velez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malcom Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malcom Gray will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Herman Velez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Malcom Gray!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gray swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Gray lands a big head kick that sends Velez tumbling to the mat! Gray takes a step backwards and waves Velez back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Herman Velez has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Velez keeps the fight on the outside.

Gray shoots in and bounces Velez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Velez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Velez is looking to sweep but instead, Gray has passed into half guard.
Gray prevents Velez from improving his position.
Velez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Velez wants to stand but Gray is controlling the position.

Gray manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Velez on his heels. He'll look to pass Velez's guard now, I'm sure.

Velez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Velez wants to sweep but no luck.
Gray advances to half guard.
Velez is staying active underneath Gray, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Velez is looking to improve his position.

Gray stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Velez to get to his feet.

Velez gets tackled into the cage by Gray. Gray maintains the clinch.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gray lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gray is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Velez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gray pulls his head out easily.
Gray is pressing down on Velez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Velez is holding on for now.

Gray looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Gray is keen to just control but Velez is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Malcom Gray hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Velez has Gray pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Gray manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Velez is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gray is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Velez to the mat. Velez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Velez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Gray manages to pass to side control.

Gray is looking for a kimura but Velez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gray to get the leverage.

Velez is desperately trying to improve his position but Gray has a good base and remains in mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Velez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
BOOM! Gray connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Gray throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Velez because Gray loaded up on that one.
Gray throws some wild stikes that Velez manages to avoid easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Gray shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Velez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gray has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Velez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gray decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Velez, up you get!
Gray tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gray is pressed up against the cage. Velez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gray down to the mat. Gray avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Gray counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Gray scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gray stands up.

Gray has closed the distance and engaged Velez in a clinch.
Velez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Gray after a bit of a struggle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gray has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Velez uses from the top position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gray is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Velez throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gray uses it to pass to side control.

Gray stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gray feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gray postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Velez looks to move to half guard but instead Gray has passed into mount! Damn!

Gray throws some wild stikes that Velez manages to avoid easily.
Malcom Gray has got the better of the ground game so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gray can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Velez is looking to escape.
Gray has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gray thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Malcom Gray showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Gray. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

You can see the frustration on Velez's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gray is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Velez defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Gray has the hooks in. Velez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Gray is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Velez knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Velez for a finish.

Gray is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Gray just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Velez is having to fend off submission attempts from Gray, who is looking to sink in the choke. Gray doesn't have the hooks in though and Velez manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Gray pulls Velez in close to prevent any damage.

Gray is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Velez is controlling him.
Velez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Velez works over Gray with some ground and pound from guard.
Gray wants to stand up but Velez is controlling him.
Gray wants to control the position but Velez says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gray wants to get back to his feet.
Velez thows a huge punch but Gray dodges it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Malcom Gray.
Well Gray has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
