PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kendrick Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Butch McGoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kendrick Reese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Butch McGoo!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reese shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Reese was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
McGoo is looking to regain half guard here but Reese keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGoo is trying to control Reese's posture but Reese avoids it.
The ground and pound from Reese seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Reese postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
McGoo is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Reese in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
McGoo is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Reese is controlling him well.
Reese misses with the ground and pound.

Reese is trying to get an arm triangle but McGoo is defending well.
Reese slows the pace down.
McGoo tries to buck Reese off but Reese is having none of it.
Reese landing strikes.
Reese tries to advance to mount but can't.

Reese goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McGoo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Reese but great work by McGoo.
McGoo wants to control but Reese is keeping him busy.
Reese is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on McGoo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

McGoo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Reese keeps working.

McGoo seems to be working for a kimura but Reese defends the submission attempt.
Reese is trying to get back to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGoo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Reese sees it coming and defends easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Reese has his foot on McGoo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McGoo works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reese tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Reese looking for submissions from the bottom but instead McGoo passes into side control.
Reese tries to buck McGoo off but McGoo is having none of it.

McGoo gets to mount! Reese was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Reese just trying to survive but McGoo is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Reese breaks McGoo's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Reese trying to control the position from guard on top but McGoo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reese slips nicely into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McGoo is trying to stand up here but Reese is controlling him well.

McGoo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Reese defends well and McGoo ends up having to push Reese into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Reese is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McGoo is defending well.
Reese wants a takedown but no success here.
Reese has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by McGoo after a bit of a struggle.

Reese closes the distance and clinches up with McGoo, looking for a takedown. Reese pushes McGoo against the cage but McGoo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
McGoo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McGoo wants it to stay on the feet.
Reese closes this distance looking for a takedown but McGoo circles away.
Reese goes for a double leg but McGoo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McGoo continues to drive forward.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reese tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Reese wants to take the fight to the mat but McGoo manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Reese swings away with an uppercut that misses.

McGoo jumps into guard, dragging Reese to the mat.

McGoo wants to sweep but no luck.
Reese looking to sit in guard and control but McGoo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Reese is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McGoo controlling from the top position.
Reese is looking to stand up but McGoo isn't so interested in that idea.

Reese is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McGoo defends well.
McGoo trying to control but Reese is working from the bottom.
Reese controls McGoo momentarily but McGoo frees himself.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Reese is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and McGoo dives into side control.

McGoo stands up.
McGoo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
McGoo misses with a kick to the body.
Reese fails with a takedown attempt.
McGoo misses with a series of wild punches.
McGoo goes for a double leg but Reese avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Reese continues to drive forward.

McGoo is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Reese has McGoo pressed against the cage, preventing McGoo from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Reese successfully pulls guard.
Reese wants to hit a switch here but McGoo passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Reese there!
Reese tries to buck McGoo off but he can't manage it.

McGoo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Reese has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Reese bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Butch McGoo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from McGoo.

Reese closes the distance and clinches.
Reese goes for a takedown in the clinch but McGoo prevents it.

Reese has clasped his hands together around McGoo's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
McGoo tries to bench press Reese off him but Reese keeps the position.
McGoo wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Kendrick Reese overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McGoo throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Reese swings around for an armbar but McGoo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Reese's guard.

Reese working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McGoo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McGoo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Butch McGoo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
McGoo slaps away a takedown attempt from Reese, before circling back to the center of the mat.

McGoo gets control of Reese's arms and successfully pulls guard. McGoo will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kendrick Reese.
I think Reese has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
