PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Valerio Guerreiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guerreiro comes to the cage accompanied by target=blank>Merauder - Master killer. Emelianenko is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by 50 Cent. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko stuffs the takedown attempt from Guerreiro. Guerreiro gets slowly back to his feet.
Guerreiro fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Guerreiro decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Emelianenko's guard.

Emelianenko has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Guerreiro off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Guerreiro is looking to break free of the clinch but Emelianenko has double underhooks.
Emelianenko lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Guerreiro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Emelianenko counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Guerreiro!

Emelianenko stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Emelianenko shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Guerreiro's guard.

Emelianenko thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Emelianenko shoots in looking for a takedown. Guerreiro tries to sprawl out of it but Emelianenko keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Guerreiro manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Emelianenko wants to sweep here but Guerreiro controlling him for the moment.

Emelianenko is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Guerreiro stands up and waves to Emelianenko to follow him.
Emelianenko shoots and misses
and Guerreiro counters with a three punch combo that has Emelianenko backing up. Emelianenko nods at Guerreiro to acknowledge the strikes.
Guerreiro shoots in for a double leg but Emelianenko sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Emelianenko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Guerreiro to the mat! Guerreiro manages to get full guard.

Guerreiro could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Emelianenko decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Guerreiro, up you get!

Emelianenko stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Guerreiro to get to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

and Emelianenko counters with a nice uppercut.
Guerreiro throws a sloppy head kick and Emelianenko moves out of range easily.

Emelianenko works to advance to full mount. Guerreiro defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Emelianenko moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Guerreiro has worked his arm free - good work by Guerreiro!

Emelianenko drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Guerreiro manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Emelianenko has Guerreiro in his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Guerreiro controls Emelianenko momentarily but Emelianenko frees himself.

Emelianenko drops back looking for a leg! Guerreiro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Guerreiro manages to kick Emelianenko off! Emelianenko jumps back into Guerreiro's guard.

Emelianenko decides to return to a standing position.

Guerreiro closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Guerreiro is keen to just control but Emelianenko is a slippery customer.
Guerreiro stops Emelianenko from getting back to his feet.

Valerio Guerreiro has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Valerio Guerreiro.
I think Emelianenko has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
