The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jeffries tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pope swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Pope moves into the clinch.
Jeffries is looking for a takedown.
Pope works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Jeffries blocks an elbow strike from Pope.
Pope slowing the pace effectively.
Pope pushes Jeffries back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Jeffries tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pope smiles and moves away.

Pope closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jeffries drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pope gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Deacon Jeffries . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pope scores with a hook to the body.

Jeffries is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Pope keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jeffries 's efforts to push away.
Jeffries tries to circle away but Pope has him pinned against the cage.
Pope is leaning against Jeffries and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Jeffries is trying to drag Pope to the mat but Pope just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Pope lands a body shot in the clinch.
Pope lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Pope escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Pope's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jeffries tries to clinch up.

Pope fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jeffries , pushing him back against the cage.
Pope cracks Jeffries with a nice body shot.

Pope breaks the clinch.

Pope closes the distance and clinches.

Pope breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pope feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Jeffries sprawling to the canvas! Jeffries rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Pope finish him?!

Jeffries is rocked!

It looks like Deacon Jeffries has been cut.
A big left from Pope misses.
Oh Jeffries is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Pope darts in and clinches Jeffries up against the cage.
Pope dips a shoulder and cracks Jeffries with a mighty uppercut! Jeffries falls back against the cage and Pope unloads with a barrage of strikes! Jeffries is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Pope screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
