PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Casy Carver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tapda Mattus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carver kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is It's my life. Mattus has chosen My heart as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Casy Carver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapda Mattus!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mattus shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Carver's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Mattus scoring with punches to the head and body.
Mattus wants to control from the top but Carver keeps moving.
Carver looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Mattus drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Carver dives on top into guard.
Carver engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Carver tries to stand but Mattus is controlling from the bottom.

Mattus looking for a guillotine here but Carver defends easily.
Carver sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mattus escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carver gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mattus looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Carver puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Carver wants to work for an arm triangle but Mattus is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mattus is doing well to control the position and prevent Carver from advancing to side control.
Carver will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carver prevents Mattus from standing back up.
Mattus tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mattus is staying active underneath Carver, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Carver trying to control from half guard but Mattus is working away.

Mattus throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Mattus is trying to maintain the position but Carver is very close to passing his half guard.
Mattus tries to get to full guard but Carver has control of the leg.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mattus can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mattus looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
It looks like Carver is going to stand back up.
Mattus tries to get to full guard but Carver has control of the leg.
Mattus is refusing to be controlled, as Carver sits in half guard.
Mattus trying to hold on to Carver's head to control him but Carver postures up.

Carver is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mattus sees it coming and defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mattus looking for submissions off his back.
Carver really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mattus is looking to improve his position.
Mattus moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Carver is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Soul Supremacy Elite Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Mattus throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Carver got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mattus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carver has managed to get both his arms back between Mattus's legs - danger averted.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mattus not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mattus has his foot on Carver's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carver works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tapda Mattus dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Carver clinches up against the cage.

Mattus jumps into guard, dragging Carver to the mat.
Carver trying to control but Mattus is working from the bottom.

Mattus working for a triangle but Carver defends it easily.

Carver has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mattus to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Carver is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mattus pulls down on the head and he's put Carver to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Tapda Mattus!
A victorious Tapda Mattus thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
In defeat, Casy Carver stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'm not myself today , sorry - I will show real me at the next show ! '.
