Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Denny Spears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dom Junk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dom Junk will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Denny Spears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dom Junk!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spears stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Spears wants it to stay on the feet.

Spears forces Junk back against the cage and clinches.
Junk is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Spears to keep the fight standing.
Junk has Spears pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Spears manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Denny Spears has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Junk.
Junk tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Spears smiles and moves away.

Spears closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Junk is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Spears is defending well for now.
Junk drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Spears gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Spears drops down looking for an ankle pick but Junk pulls his leg out and moves away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Junk.

Junk bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Junk throws a push kick but Spears slaps the foot to one side.
Junk moves in looking to clinch but Spears pushes him off.
Junk avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Spears misses with a series of wild punches.
Junk throws a series of punches but Spears avoids them all with ease.
Dom Junk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Junk looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Spears is fending him off so far but Junk persists. Nope, Spears circles away and we're back to standing.

enabling Spears to counter with a crisp jab.

Spears pushes Junk up against the cage in a clinch.
Spears stalls.
Junk wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Spears has him pressed against the cage.

Junk has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Spears uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Junk trying to strike off his back.
Junk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Spears postures up and lands a big shot to Junk's brow.
Spears wants to stand but Junk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Spears drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Spears jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Spears lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Spears working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Junk trying to keep a closed guard but Spears is proving a slippery customer.
Junk wants to sweep here but Spears controlling him for the moment.
Spears is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Spears wants to stand but Junk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Junk is trying to keep Spears in close.
Spears working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Junk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Junk looks winded!
Junk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Junk is looking for a triangle but Spears pushes his legs off easily.

Spears decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Spears tries to clinch but Junk moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Spears holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Junk drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Junk jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Spears walks away with a smile on his face. Junk gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Spears throws a head kick that misses.
Junk misses with a takedown attempt - Spears sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Denny Spears has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Junk.
Spears dodges the punch combination from Junk.
Junk tries to clinch there but Spears circles away.
Spears misses with a combination
and Junk counters with a three punch combo that has Spears backing up. Spears nods at Junk to acknowledge the strikes.
Junk tries for a takedown but Spears sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Junk is breathing heavily.

Spears drives through with a takedown into guard.

Spears gets to his feet - Junk follows without any prompting.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Junk.

Spears gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Junk is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Spears has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Junk after a bit of a struggle.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Junk goes for a takedown in the clinch but Spears prevents it.

and Spears holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Spears changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Junk fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Spears tries to close the distance and clinch but Junk swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Spears drops down looking for an ankle pick but Junk pulls his leg out and moves away.
Spears moves in looking to clinch but Junk pushes him off.

Spears tries a low kick but Junk avoids it.
Spears tries to clinch but Junk moves out of range.
Junk misses with a takedown
and Spears counters with a one-two to the body.

Spears closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Junk to the mat! Junk manages to get full guard.

Spears decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Junk, up you get!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Junk shoots for a double leg takedown but Spears sprawls well. He's pushed Junk's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Spears looks to land a combination but Junk avoids it well.
Spears walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Junk checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Spears throws a head kick that misses.
Junk looks for a takedown but Spears sprawls well.
Spears rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Junk moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Junk shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Spears as he jumps to the side.
Spears throws a body punch but Junk moves out of range.
Junk dives in and grabs Spears's left leg, looking for a takedown. Spears pushes down on Junk's head and hops out.
Denny Spears has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dom Junk.
Spears tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Spears scores with a jab to the jaw.
Junk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Spears does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Junk tries for a takedown but Spears circles away easily

and Spears counters with a takedown into side control.

Spears lands a nice forearm strike.
Spears working the body and head with strikes.

Junk misses with a strike from the bottom.

Spears stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Junk takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Spears throws a combination. Junk tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Spears tries to clinch up but Junk circles away and keeps his distance.

Junk avoids a punch combination nicely.

and Spears counters with a left and a right that stings Junk.
Spears misses with a low kick.
Junk slips under a jab.
Spears fails to land with a series of punches.

Spears clinches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Junk tries to pull guard but Spears holds him up against the cage and eventually Junk drops back down to his feet.

Spears doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Junk trying to control but Spears is working from the bottom.
Spears wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Junk is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dom Junk was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Junk tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Spears manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Nice sprawl there from Spears as Junk shoots in.

Spears fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Junk sprawls well initially but Spears persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Spears winds up and cracks Junk with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Spears prevents Junk from improving his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Spears lands a nice short elbow.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Spears is thwarting Junk's attempts to control the position.
Dom Junk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Denny Spears is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Spears lands with a punch from half guard.

Denny Spears showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Spears has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
