PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erin Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erin Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gustavo Santos!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos blocks a head kick by Padilla.
Santos looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Padilla drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Padilla working some strikes from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Padilla missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Padilla's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Santos utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Padilla trying to stand up but can't free himself from Santos's guard.
Padilla could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Padilla postures up and lands a big shot to Santos's brow.
Padilla has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Padilla trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom.

Santos wants to sweep but no luck.

Santos has momentary wrist control but Padilla slips an elbow through the middle.

Padilla tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Santos.
Santos tries to kick Padilla off but Padilla keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well, if Padilla is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

We're going to have a standup here because Erin Padilla wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Padilla closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Padilla lands in his opponent's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Santos has a closed guard, preventing Padilla from standing up.
Padilla is looking to work some ground and pound but Santos has wrist control.

Padilla is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Padilla wants to stand but Santos is controlling his posture from full guard.
Santos keeping moving, preventing Padilla from controlling successfully.

Padilla postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Santos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Padilla can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Padilla decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Padilla clinches up with Santos and pushes him back against the cage.
Santos's coach down at Morbid Conditioning School $150 was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Santos's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Padilla's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Santos is fighting off a takedown attempt but Padilla is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Santos to the mat. Santos regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Padilla gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Santos fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Padilla to the ground. Santos is now in Padilla's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Padilla looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Santos trying to move into half guard but instead Padilla has managed to sweep!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erin Padilla dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Padilla shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Santos manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Santos is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Padilla is aware though and is defending well.
Padilla lands a couple of digs.
Padilla lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Padilla is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Padilla postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Padilla is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Santos has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Padilla is looking to defend but Santos has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Padilla! Santos pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Padilla taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Gustavo Santos!
