PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colin Sheppard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyson has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Mike Tyson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Colin Sheppard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Tyson!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sheppard fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tyson avoids it really well and circles away.

Tyson clinches with his opponent.
Tyson tries to pull guard but Sheppard won't allow it.
Sheppard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Tyson decides to pull guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Tyson is trying to control the position but Sheppard postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sheppard lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sheppard throwing strikes but missing.
Sheppard has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tyson is proving hard to escape from.
Sheppard throws a big elbow that misses.
Tyson has Sheppard pulled in close to control his posture.
Sheppard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tyson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sheppard in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sheppard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tyson on the ground.
Sheppard lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Sheppard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tyson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tyson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tyson wants to pass the guard but Sheppard is keeping the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sheppard stuffs the takedown.

Tyson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sheppard smiles and moves away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sheppard wants to get back to striking at distance but Tyson won't allow it.
Sheppard is trying to break the clinch but Tyson is controlling him.
Tyson is looking for a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Colin Sheppard will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Sheppard tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tyson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Sheppard shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tyson pinned against the cage. Tyson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sheppard closes the distance and clinches up with Tyson, looking for a takedown. Sheppard pushes Tyson against the cage but Tyson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tyson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Tyson counters with a one-two to the body.
Sheppard tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tyson defends well and Sheppard ends up having to push Tyson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sheppard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tyson lands a body shot.
Sheppard goes for a double leg but Tyson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tyson continues to drive forward.

Sheppard dives in and grabs Tyson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tyson pushes down on Sheppard's head and hops out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tyson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sheppard goes for a takedown attempt but Tyson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tyson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sheppard shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tyson pinned against the cage. Tyson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A short left from Tyson.

Tyson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tyson lands a two punch combo.
Sheppard shoots for a double leg takedown but Tyson sprawls well. He's pushed Sheppard's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Tyson. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Sheppard can't get the takedown.

Tyson pulls guard effortlessly.
Sheppard working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sheppard tries to stand but Tyson is controlling from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sheppard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sheppard won't allow Tyson to sweep him here.

Mike Tyson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tyson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
