PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rhett Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeb Kerman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kerman has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Rhett Ray is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rhett Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeb Kerman!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ray closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kerman to the mat! Kerman manages to get full guard.
Kerman looks winded!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kerman wants to sweep here but Ray controlling him for the moment.
Ray scoring with some ground and pound.

Ray is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kerman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ray works over Kerman with some ground and pound from guard.

Ray is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kerman keeping moving, preventing Ray from controlling successfully.
Ray lands a couple of digs.
Kerman wants to control the position but Ray says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Ray missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ray lands a nice short elbow.

Ray seems to be working for a kimura but Kerman defends the submission attempt.
Ray with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Ray not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ray is controlling the pace.

Kerman wants to control but Ray is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ray tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kerman swivels and escapes.

Ray clinches with his opponent.
Ray lands a good knee to the midsection. Kerman won't want to take too many of those.

Ray pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ray drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ray controls from within his opponent's guard.

Ray distracts Kerman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ray throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ray scoring with punches to the head and body.
Ray stands up over Kerman, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ray could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ray is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ray wants to stand but Kerman is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Kerman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ray is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kerman throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ray uses it to pass to side control.
Rhett Ray overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ray tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ray has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kerman is breathing heavily.

Ray creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Ray grinds an elbow into Kerman's temple.
Ray is staying tight to Kerman's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Ray is looking to take a break and control but Kerman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kerman is trying to escape the position but Ray is controlling the position.

Ray is putting a hurting on Kerman here, landing some big shots from side control.
Ray cracks Kerman with a big right hand but Kerman just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Kerman wants to control but Ray postures up.
Kerman is not content to let Ray control the position.
Ray scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kerman to see if he's OK.

Ray decides to stand back up. Ray steps back and let's Kerman get back to his feet.

Ray is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Ray decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ray controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kerman is refusing to be controlled, as Ray sits in half guard.
Ray wants to get back to his feet.
Kerman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rhett Ray just wasn't active enough.
Ray wants to clinch.
Ray tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kerman swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Ray.
Ray wants to control but Kerman is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ray thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Kerman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ray lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Ray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kerman keeps working.

Ray working the body and head with strikes.
Ray wants to control but Kerman is keeping him busy.
Kerman taking punishment in the form of punches.
Kerman is trying to work for a sweep but Ray has mounted him!
Ray looking to control but Kerman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Ray pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Ray avoids the attempt from Kerman to control.

Jeb Kerman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rhett Ray is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kerman is squirming around, avoiding Ray's attempts to control the action.

Well Ray has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
