The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smith on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Smith swings away with a leg kick that misses.
The crowd cheers as Smith lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ruanti doesn't seem phased though.
Ruanti fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Smith is out of range.
Ruanti lands a really nice looking cross but Smith seems unphased.
Smith throws a predictable looking body shot
and Ruanti counters with a nice low kick that buckles Smith's knee momentarily.
Smith swings for the body but Ruanti moves out of range.
Ruanti tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Smith throws a low kick but it's checked well by Ruanti.

and Ruanti cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Ruanti chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Smith lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Ruanti has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Ruanti and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Smith throws a right hand that Ruanti ducks under and follows up with a left that Ruanti also avoids with ease.

Smith fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Ruanti is out of range.
Smith swats away the attempt to clinch by Ruanti.

Ruanti rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Ruanti is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Ruanti creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Smith with a big uppercut! Smith tries to clinch up but Ruanti pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Smith to the mat! Smith covers up and Ruanti unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
