The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz tries to clinch up.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Ruiz.

Smith pushes Ruiz up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith digs a right hand into Ruiz's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ruiz's gas tank.
A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Smith wants to break free but Ruiz has control.
Smith has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ruiz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Orville Ruiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Smith.
Smith is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ruiz gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Smith tries to pull guard but Ruiz won't allow it.

Ruiz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ruiz avoids it really well and circles away.

Ruiz darts in looking for a takedown but Smith gets double underhooks and turns Ruiz into the cage.
Smith tries to break free but Ruiz pushes him back against the cage.
Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Ruiz has double underhooks.
Smith throws an elbow but it misses.
