PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roy Bane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tanga King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bane has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roy Bane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tanga King!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bane tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but King was well out of range. Poor timing from Bane.
Bane is breathing heavily.
King misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bane thows a body shot but no joy.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Bane ducks right into an uppercut from King.
King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bane misses with a body shot.
King looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bane is fending him off so far but King persists. Nope, Bane circles away and we're back to standing.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bane tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bane to the ground. Bane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
King with a hook.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

King breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Roy Bane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

King bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
King throwing strikes but Bane manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
King is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
King is trying to buck Bane off.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King is looking to regain half guard here but Bane keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on King's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
King tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bane wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bane wants to lay and pray for a moment but King keeps working.
King throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Bane is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, King has escaped the position, nice work there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
King prevents Bane from moving into mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King struggling a bit here.
King is looking to reverse the position.
Bane trying to control the position but King is working away.
King can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bane. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bane decides to stand up, so the ref orders King to his feet.
King walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Bane misses with a body shot.
Bane fakes high and swings low for a body shot but King manages to avoid it.
King shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bane as he jumps to the side.
Roy Bane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tanga King.
King takes one to the chin there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bane lands with a good body shot.
Roy Bane is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Horrible takedown by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Bane which made him look bad.
Bane throws a right and a left that King avoids nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Bane. King does a little dance to reset his feet.

King looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
King trying to move into half guard but instead Bane has managed to sweep!
King tries to strike from the bottom.
Bane stands and throws King's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Bane advances nicely into full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King is looking to get to half guard.
King keeps trying to improve his position.
King is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Bane postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. King looks a forlorn figure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Bane is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Bane extends the arm and King is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roy Bane!
