Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnathan Rhodes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Stephenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rhodes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Stephenson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Stephenson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rhodes is proving hard to escape from.

Stephenson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rhodes napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Rhodes is trying to stand.

Stephenson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rhodes defends it well.
Stephenson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Rhodes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Stephenson slows the pace down in half guard.
Stephenson drops an elbow to the side of Rhodes's head.
Stephenson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rhodes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Stephenson moves into full mount! Rhodes won't be happy about that!
Stephenson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rhodes is just holding on here. Stephenson manages to take his back.

Stephenson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rhodes to the ground. Stephenson is now in Rhodes's guard.

Rhodes wants to get back to his feet but Stephenson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A frustrated look appears on Rhodes's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Rhodes has had enough of the clinch but Stephenson keeps him there for the moment.
With the fighters up against the cage, Stephenson throws an elbow but misses.
Rhodes wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Stephenson has him pressed against the cage.

Rhodes tries to pull guard but Stephenson forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Rhodes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rhodes blocks a head kick by Stephenson.
Shane Stephenson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stephenson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stephenson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Rhodes looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Stephenson! Submission of the night perhaps?
