PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Farhan Sol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert McDermott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robert McDermott will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Farhan Sol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert McDermott!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Chris Dean and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDermott shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Sol counters with a body kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sol.
Sol really is a fat lump.
Sol shoots in looking for a takedown. McDermott tries to sprawl out of it but Sol keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McDermott manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sol tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sol dives in for a single leg takedown but McDermott sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Farhan Sol. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sol breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McDermott closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sol circles away.

Sol tries to move into range but McDermott moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

McDermott feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Sols jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Sol is trying hard to land a takedown here. McDermott sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sol shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McDermott but McDermott pushes him off and we're back to square one.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sol is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sol is not content to let McDermott control the position.
Sol is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
McDermott works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

McDermott in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

McDermott decides to stand back up.

Sol takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McDermott rushes Sol and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
McDermott is trying to break the clinch but Sol has him pressed against the cage.
McDermott stalls.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
McDermott tries to circle away but Sol has him pinned against the cage.
McDermott misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sol.

McDermott is working for takedown but Sol is calmly controlling the position for now.
A head punch on the inside from Sol fails to land.
Sol tries to pull guard but McDermott won't allow it.

McDermott lands a hook that snaps the head of Sol backwards.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

No joy there for McDermott, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sol wants to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sol is defended easily by McDermott.
Sol shoots in looking for a takedown but McDermott manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sol's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDermott fails with the takedown.
McDermott scores with a hook to the body. Sol takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
McDermott is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sol tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. McDermott manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

McDermott throws a leg kick but Sol sees it coming and moves out of range.
Sol takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Sol tries to pull guard but McDermott forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Sol looking for subs off his back but McDermott has passed one foot through into half guard.
McDermott is nestled in close to Sol, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sol might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McDermott is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Sol wants to get back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sol is refusing to be controlled, as McDermott sits in half guard.

Robert McDermott showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

McDermott has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Sol tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sol jumps guard but McDermott stands there with Sol around his waist. Sol gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

McDermott fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sol avoids it really well and circles away.
McDermott sizes up Sol with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
McDermott has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Sol fails with a takedown attempt.
McDermott tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sol swivels and escapes.

McDermott dives in and grabs Sol's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sol pushes down on McDermott's head and hops out.

Robert McDermott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sol is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Robert McDermott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McDermott has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
