Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 47 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Michael Patton!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Derek Riggs!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riggs lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Patton stuffs the takedown attempt from Riggs. Riggs gets slowly back to his feet.
Patton looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Patton jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Patton goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
A big left from Riggs misses.
The crowd cheers as Riggs lands an impressive looking overhand right. Patton doesn't seem phased though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Patton misses with a body shot.

A solid leg kick lands there for Patton.
Riggs moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Riggs misses with an uppercut. Patton saw that one coming.
Donk. Patton catches Riggs right on the button with a cross.
Patton bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Patton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Riggs fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Patton to the ground. Riggs is now in Patton's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Patton keeping moving, preventing Riggs from controlling successfully.
Riggs postures up in Patton's guard and throws a big left but Patton blocks it.
Patton controls Riggs momentarily but Riggs frees himself.

Patton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Riggs tries to free his leg and advance position but Patton is retaining full guard.
Riggs trying to control but Patton is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Riggs might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Patton haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Riggs chips away with some ground and pound.

Patton looking for a guillotine here but Riggs defends easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Riggs slips nicely into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Riggs throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Riggs working over Patton with some ground and pound. Patton looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Riggs is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Riggs sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Patton defending well though.
Riggs landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Riggs thows a huge punch but Patton dodges it nicely.
Patton is in trouble now - Riggs has advanced to mount!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Patton holds on, trying desperately to control.
Riggs fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Patton really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Riggs raining down shots from the mount!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Riggs is in the full mount, landing strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Derek Riggs dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Patton throws a leg kick but Riggs checks it.


Patton is rocked!
Riggs throws a sloppy head kick and Patton moves out of range easily.
Riggs tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Patton lands a jab to the head.
Patton paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Nice cross by Riggs.
Oh Patton is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Patton swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Riggs closes this distance looking for a takedown but Patton circles away.
Riggs connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Riggs misses with a few strikes there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Riggs fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Patton is out of range.
Patton feints a jab promting Riggs to slip. Patton then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Riggs slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Michael Patton is winning the standup battle so far.
Riggs buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Patton seems to have got his legs back now.
Riggs feints and then cracks Patton's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Patton down.
Patton throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Patton misses with a hook.

Riggs scores with a hook.
Patton throws a hook but Riggs blocks it.
Patton tried to score with a low kick but Riggs checks it.
A low kick from Riggs misses
and Patton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Riggs tries to land a front kick but Patton steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Patton is looking to slow Riggs down with leg kicks.
Patton throws a low kick but it's checked well by Riggs.

Riggs looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Riggs lands with an uppercut that bounces Patton off the cage and back into range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Patton getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Riggs lands an overhand right.
Patton just misses with a punch to the body.
Patton misses with a head kick.
Derek Riggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Riggs throws a jab but it's blocked by Patton.
Riggs looks to land a body kick but Patton moved away.
Riggs scores with the left hand. Patton knows he should have avoided that one.
Riggs has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Patton finds it's way round the side to connect with Riggs's head.
Patton misses with a wild body shot.
Patton fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Riggs closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Patton did well to prevent Riggs getting side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Patton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Riggs frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Riggs pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Riggs! Patton is hurt baaadly! Riggs is firing away with more strikes - Patton is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Derek Riggs!
