The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Calvancante looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Calvancante gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Calvancante moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Mendez trying to control the position from guard on top but Calvancante is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Calvancante is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Mendez frees his head nicely. Oh but Calvancante has switched to an armbar! Mendez is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
