PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fabricio Bezerra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffrey Molina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabricio Bezerra!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeffrey Molina!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bezerra misses with a two punch combination.

Molina closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Molina lands in his opponent's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Molina loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Molina's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bezerra is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Academia Ipanema that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Molina can do anything to dispel that myth.

Molina really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bezerra. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Molina working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Molina is trying to control the action in half guard but Bezerra is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jeffrey Molina was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Molina feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Bezerra is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Molina stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bezerra swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Molina lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A relieved looking Jeffrey Molina thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
