Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Carrell!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Riggs!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs throws a wild body kick that Carrell sees coming a mile off.
Carrell misses with an uppercut

and Riggs counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Carrell tries to buck Riggs off but Riggs is having none of it.
Carrell's coaches at Dragon MMA Academy have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Carrell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Carrell tries to get out of the position.
Riggs working the strikes but Carrell uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riggs is looking to advance position but Carrell won't allow it.

Riggs looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Riggs sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carrell defending well though.
Riggs not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Carrell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carrell is working hard here to advance position.

Carrell avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Riggs.
Riggs is thwarting Carrell's attempts to control the position.
Riggs lands with a punch from half guard.

Riggs is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Carrell is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Riggs! John Riggs retains his welterweight title!
