PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jere Coffey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Green is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Working for the Weekend - Loverboy. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Green!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Green shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Coffey manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Coffey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Green controls the pace.
Green looking to pass the guard.
Green is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Green drops back, looking for a kneebar! Coffey looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Coffey looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Coffey!
Green is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Green is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Green is looking to escape.
Green tries to roll over but Coffey keeps him under control.
Coffey thows a huge punch but Green dodges it nicely.

Coffey is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Coffey is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Green doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Coffey.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Coffey is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Green has one foot on Coffey's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Green keeps the fight on the outside.

Green scores with a takedown into Coffey's guard.
Green postures up.
Coffey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Green must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Green wants to stand but Coffey has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Jere Coffey wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Green fails with an attempt to clinch.
Green is looking to clinch but Coffey is avoiding it.
Green tries to clinch up but Coffey circles away and keeps his distance.
Coffey takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Green scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Green passes the guard and advances to mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Green dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Green lands a high kick!


It looks like Jere Coffey has been cut.
Green tries to clinch but Coffey moves out of range.
Green misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Green shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Coffey is trying to defend but Green finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.


Coffey is rocked!
Robert Green has got the better of the ground game so far.
Green controlling the action here.
Oh Coffey is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Green thows a huge punch but Coffey dodges it nicely.
Green throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Coffey to regain full guard.
Green scoring with punches to the head and body.
Coffey trying to strike off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Green stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Coffey pushes Green up against the cage in a clinch.

Green has clasped his hands together around Coffey's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Green working the ground and pound but Coffey is defending the strikes.
Coffey tries to bench press Green off him but Green keeps the position.
Green grinds an elbow into Coffey's temple.
Coffey avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Green.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Green thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Green scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Coffey is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Green can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Green!
Robert Green decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
