PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jon Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Oliver Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Williams but Williams pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jones is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Williams.
Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Williams avoids it really well and circles away.
Williams tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Williams somewhat.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones stands up from Williams's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Williams circles away.
Oliver Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Williams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Williams counters with a head kick. That will keep Jones thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Williams doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jones looks for a takedown but Williams sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Oliver Williams will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones wants to clinch up but Williams keeps it at a distance.
Jones leaves Williams with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Jones drives through with a takedown into Williams's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Williams wants to sweep but no luck.
Williams looking to control.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Williams wants to stand but Jones is controlling the position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Williams tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jones shoots in but no luck this time.
Williams tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Williams swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jones goes for a double leg but Williams avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Williams continues to drive forward.
Oliver Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Williams ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Williams no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Williams is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Williams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Williams's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jon Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Williams dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Williams's head and hops out.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jones showed some decent athleticism there.
Jones wants to take a breather but Williams is having none of it.
Williams might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Williams is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Williams is trying to stand up.
Jones landing strikes from the mount.

Williams slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Williams keeps working.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Well, if Jones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jon Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Williams takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Williams.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Williams stalls.
Williams tries to pull guard but Jones forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones really dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jones shoots in for a takedown but Williams shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Williams shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've been informed that Jones has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Williams closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Williams is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Williams eventually gives up the hold.
Jon Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jones is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell?

The ref stands the fighters back up. Oliver Williams wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Williams throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Williams clinches with his opponent.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.
Williams slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Williams misses with a looping left.
Williams looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jones is fending him off so far but Williams persists. Nope, Jones circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Williams tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt - Williams sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Williams misses with a few strikes there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Oliver Williams showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Williams has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
