PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Coy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aristos Ioannidis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coy comes to the cage accompanied by SPM. Ioannidis has chosen If I Can't - 50 Cent as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aristos Ioannidis!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coy closes the distance but Ioannidis moves to the side

and Ioannidis counters by moving into the clinch.

Ioannidis pulls guard.
Coy throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Coy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ioannidis on the ground.
Coy is looking to work some ground and pound but Ioannidis has wrist control.
Coy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ioannidis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ioannidis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Coy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ioannidis preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Coy keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ioannidis's head.

Ioannidis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Aristos Ioannidis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Coy tries for a takedown but Ioannidis circles away easily

and Ioannidis counters with a single leg into guard. Coy didn't expect that.
Ioannidis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Coy is working an open guard so Ioannidis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Ioannidis counters with a three punch combo that has Coy backing up. Coy nods at Ioannidis to acknowledge the strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ioannidis keeps the fight on the outside.
Ioannidis blocks a low kick nicely.

Ioannidis shoots in and bounces Coy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ioannidis stands up from Coy's guard - Ioannidis perhaps looking for a knockout.

Coy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ioannidis counters with a thumping low kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Coy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Coy falls off balance throwing a combination
and Ioannidis counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Carlos Coy has been cut.
Coy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ioannidis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Coy is breathing heavily.
Coy misses with a takedown attempt

and Ioannidis counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Coy is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ioannidis passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Coy!
Oh Coy is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ioannidis postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Coy looks a forlorn figure.

Coy seems to have got his legs back now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coy wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aristos Ioannidis dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Carlos Coy's cut.

Coy gets a takedown into half guard.
Coy throws a strike but Ioannidis avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Ioannidis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Coy defends well.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ioannidis wriggles free and stands up.
Ioannidis swats away the attempt to clinch by Coy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ioannidis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Coy tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ioannidis is in Coy's guard.
Coy can't keep his opponent in guard - Ioannidis advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ioannidis not doing much here.
Ioannidis works his foot free and advances to mount.
BOOM! Ioannidis connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Ioannidis is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Ioannidis extends the arm and Coy is forced to tap!
