PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yra Panov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Verrueckte Mungo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yra Panov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Verrueckte Mungo!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mungo misses with a takedown attempt - Panov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Panov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mungo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Mungo is trying to control Panov's posture but Panov avoids it.
Mungo is looking to regain half guard here but Panov keeps moving and retains side control.

Panov is trying to get an arm triangle but Mungo is defending well.
Panov wants to control but Mungo is keeping him busy.

Panov tries to advance to mount but Mungo denies him.

Panov could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Panov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mungo to the mat! Mungo manages to get full guard.

Panov wants to get up but he can't break Mungo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mungo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Panov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Panov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mungo shoots for a double leg takedown but Panov sprawls well. He's pushed Mungo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Panov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mungo's guard.
Yra Panov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mungo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mungo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mungo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Panov tries to buck Mungo off but Mungo is having none of it.
Panov is trying to control Mungo's posture but Mungo avoids it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Panov is trying to get back to half guard.
Panov holds on to Mungo's head and controls the position momentarily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mungo wants to control but Panov is keeping him busy.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

A close second round but Verrueckte Mungo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Panov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Verrueckte Mungo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Panov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mungo sprawls well initially but Panov persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mungo manages to get to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yra Panov.
Well Panov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
