PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charles Whitman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whitman's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Welcome To The Jungle. Sanchez has chosen PELIMUSA as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Charles Whitman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 2, fighting out of London, Jose Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Sanchez. Whitman does a little dance to reset his feet.
Whitman has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sanchez.
Sanchez slips a straight right by Whitman.
Sanchez lands with a nice body kick.
Whitman has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Allstars MMA in the buildup to the fight.
Whitman misses with a body shot.
Whitman throws a body punch but Sanchez moves out of range.

so Sanchez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but Whitman is retaining full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Whitman wants to stand and escape but Sanchez is having none of it.

Whitman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sanchez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but Whitman is retaining full guard.
Sanchez trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sanchez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Whitman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sanchez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Sanchez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sanchez is pushing down on Whitman's leg trying to pass to half guard. Whitman is fighting to maintain full guard but Sanchez has managed to sneak the leg through.

Sanchez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whitman is just riding it out for now. Sanchez eventually gives up the hold.
Sanchez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Sanchez is working for a kimura but Whitman is defending it quite comfortably.
Whitman is refusing to be controlled, as Sanchez sits in half guard.
Whitman is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sanchez scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sanchez prevents Whitman from standing back up.
Sanchez is pressing down on Whitman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Whitman is holding on for now.

Whitman is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Sanchez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Whitman is looking to escape.
You get the feeling that Whitman really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Sanchez lands a heavy elbow.
Whitman's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Sanchez lands a nice shot to the head.
Whitman tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Sanchez tries to control but Whitman wriggling away.
Whitman's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Whitman has left one of his arms exposed and Sanchez doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Whitman screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
