PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Guillermo Sandoval (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rohan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Guillermo Sandoval!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rohan Khan!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sandoval takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Guillermo Sandoval has been cut.
Khan tries to clinch but Sandoval moves away

and Sandoval holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Sandoval really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sandoval lands with a right to the head.
Khan jumps guard but Sandoval turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Khan tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sandoval just stands there and leans against the cage.
Khan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Khan pulls guard effortlessly.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Khan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sandoval is one step ahead there.
Khan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sandoval is controlling him.
Sandoval scoring with some ground and pound.

Khan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Khan throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sandoval uses it to pass to side control.
Sandoval will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sandoval stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Sandoval defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Khan.
Guillermo Sandoval has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rohan Khan.
Khan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sandoval but Sandoval pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Khan looks to clinch

and Sandoval counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Sandoval trying to land knees to the body.
Sandoval blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Sandoval throws a knee to the head but misses.
Sandoval doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Khan is looking to break free of the clinch but Sandoval has double underhooks.

Khan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sandoval.
Nice takedown defense from Sandoval. No joy for Khan on that attempt.

Sandoval rushes Khan and presses him up against the cage.
Khan goes for a takedown attempt but Sandoval pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sandoval shoots in and gets a takedown into Khan's guard.

Sandoval gets to his feet. Khan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Khan tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Sandoval holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Khan's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Sandoval can't find room to land a body shot as Khan controls the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sandoval after a bit of a struggle.
Sandoval is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Khan is defending well for now.

Khan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Sandoval counters by clinching up.
Khan tries to land knees in the clinch but Sandoval avoids the damage to the body.
Khan is trying to pull guard but Sandoval turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Khan breaks from the clinch.

Sandoval bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Guillermo Sandoval will probably get the nod.

Khan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sandoval swivels and escapes.
Sandoval slaps away a takedown attempt from Khan, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Sandoval moves into the clinch.
Guillermo Sandoval has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rohan Khan.

Khan tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Sandoval holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Khan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sandoval uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan is breathing heavily.

Sandoval gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rohan Khan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Sandoval shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sandoval showed some decent athleticism there.

Sandoval scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Khan to see if he's OK.

Khan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sandoval swivels and escapes.
Sandoval stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sandoval wants it to stay on the feet.

and Sandoval counters with a three punch combo that has Khan backing up. Khan nods at Sandoval to acknowledge the strikes.

Sandoval shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Khan's guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Sandoval shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Khan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Khan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sandoval can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sandoval stands and steps away. Khan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Sandoval gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Sandoval pulls guard successfully.
Sandoval is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sandoval has control of Khan's left arm, preventing Khan from doing any damage.
Khan wants to control from the top but Sandoval keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sandoval seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Guillermo Sandoval.

Sandoval closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Khan quickly recovers to half guard.
Khan wants to get back to his feet.
Sandoval working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Khan is trying to maintain the position but Sandoval is very close to passing his half guard.
Khan might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Sandoval haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Khan is working an open guard so Sandoval takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Khan dives in and grabs Sandoval's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sandoval pushes down on Khan's head and hops out.

and Sandoval counters with a nice double leg into side control. Khan won't be happy with that.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Khan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rohan Khan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Guillermo Sandoval is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Khan has momentary wrist control but Sandoval slips an elbow through the middle.

And that's the end of the fight!
Guillermo Sandoval showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sandoval, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
