PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taco Cancer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis's entrance music is AC/DC - Thunderstruck. A fine choice. Taco Cancer will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Taco Cancer!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cancer swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cancer lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rekis backs up against the cage.
Cancer's coach down at Island Premium CT was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cancer's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Cancer throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rekis sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rekis has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Cancer falls off balance throwing a combination
and Rekis counters with a left to the body.
Rekis has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rekis there as he acknowledges the shot.

Rekis has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Cancer after a bit of a struggle.
Cancer lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Rekis or not.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Rekis as Cancer tries to tie him up.
Rekis wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cancer has him pressed against the cage.

Come on Cancer - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cancer will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rekis up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cancer pushes Rekis back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

The referee is keeping an eye on Cancer - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Rekis tries to score a body lock takedown but Cancer shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Rekis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cancer just stands there and leans against the cage.

Cancer lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rekis backwards.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cancer lands a hook to the side of the head.
Cancer manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Taco Cancer dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Rekis counters with a good low kick that Cancer was not able to check.

Rekis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cancer as he jumps to the side.
Rekis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Cancer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rekis circles away quickly and effectively.

Rekis slips a straight right by Cancer.

Rekis moves forwards but Cancer connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Cancer scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
John Rekis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rekis goes for a double leg but Cancer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cancer continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Rekis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cancer lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Cancer is working Rekis over against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cancer is pressed up against the cage. Rekis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cancer down to the mat. Cancer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Rekis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cancer.
Cancer throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Cancer connects with a right hand. Rekis shakes it off.
Cancer throws a right hand that Rekis ducks under and follows up with a left that Rekis also avoids with ease.
Rekis moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Rekis closes the distance and clinches up with Cancer, looking for a takedown. Rekis pushes Cancer against the cage but Cancer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rekis takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Rekis moves out of range as Cancer strikes.

Cancer drops Rekis with a beautiful combination! Rekis stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Cancer is looking for the KO!


Rekis is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cancer wobbles Rekis with a right hand and the left hook that follows puts him on his rear! Cancer dives in with a huge flying punch that connects right on the button and puts Rekis to sleep! - What a violent and spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Taco Cancer!
In defeat, John Rekis stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'll be back!!!'.
