PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between William Dale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, William Dale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dale misses with the combination.
Dale throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.
Jones thuds a left hand into Dale's body.

Jones forces Dale back against the cage and clinches.

Jones is trying to trip Dale. He has hold of a leg but Dale is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jones persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Dale preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Jones connects with a couple of short punches.
Dale might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dale throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dale is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dale has escaped and now he's on top!

Jones is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones wants to break free but Dale has control.
Dale is trying to maintain a safe position but Jones gets an underhook and turns Dale into the cage.
Dale really is a fat lump.
Jones working hard to break the clinch.
Dale will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Jones up against the cage.
Jones throws an elbow but it's blocked.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Jones wants the takedown. Dale is fighting it off but Jones persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dale's guard against the cage.
Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Dale looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Jones stands up.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Dale won't allow it.
Jones is looking to break free of the clinch but Dale has double underhooks.
Dale's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Jones tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dale smiles and moves away.

Dale has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dale keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones is trying to break free.
Jones is trying to break free.
Dale has Jones pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dale misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dale throws a head kick that half lands.
Jones checks a leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dale napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Jones creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dale takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick
and Dale counters with a head kick.
Dale looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.
Jones feints a jab promting Dale to slip. Jones then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Dale slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like William Dale has been cut.

Jones has taken the fight to the clinch.

Jones gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jones trying to move into half guard but instead Dale has managed to sweep!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dale missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jones is adopting a defensive guard.
Dale working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Jones is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Dale is now in half guard.

Jones gets back to full guard.
Dale postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dale trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Dale won't allow Jones to sweep him here.

Jones is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Dale throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jones works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Dale in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Dale trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones wants to sweep but no luck.
Jones is trying to keep Dale in close.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jon Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Dale throws a head kick that Jones semi-blocks.
Dale lands with a nice body punch.
Dale misses with a head kick.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jones avoids the head kick by Dale.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.

Jones closes the distance and pushes Dale back into the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dale has Jones pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dale pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jones tumbling to the mat - Dale dives into Jones's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jon Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on William Dale's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Oooooh!!! Jones has knocked Dale down with a huge combo! Jones steps away and waves a wobbly Dale back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dale thows a leg kick but Jones checks it
and Jones counters with an inside leg kick.
Jones dips to his left and cracks Dale with an uppercut!


Dale is rocked!
William Dale is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Dale tries to land knees in the clinch but Jones avoids the damage to the body.
Dale prevents Jones from breaking the clinch.
Jones looking for a takedown.
Dale is looking to break free of the clinch but Jones has double underhooks.

Jones can't break the clinch.
Jones has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Jones breaks the clinch.
Jones misses with a double jab
and Dale counters with a good low kick that Jones was not able to check.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jones manages to break the clinch.
Jones has his takedown stuffed
and Dale counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jones is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Dale throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Dale shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jones dodges the punch combination from Dale.
A right-left combo lands from Dale.
Dale lands a head kick!

Dale gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.

Jones gets control of Dale's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones pushes Dale off and scrambles back to his feet.

Dale tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dale misses with a head kick.

Jones gets a clinch.
Dale keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jones is trying to force a seperation but Dale has the dominant position.
Come on Dale - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Jones jumps guard and drags Dale to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Dale with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones working a defensive guard here.
Dale showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jones avoids the head kick by Dale.
Dale fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Jones has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Jones moves into the clinch.
William Dale has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Dale tries to land a knee to the head but Jones blocks with his arms.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
