The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez clobbers Augusto with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Augusto has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gomez tries to close the distance and clinch but Augusto swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Augusto shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gomez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
You can see the frustration on Gomez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Augusto tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Augusto has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gomez is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Augusto is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gomez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Augusto goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gomez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Augusto's guard! Nice work there by Gomez!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

and Gomez counters with a head kick that drops Augusto to the mat! Augusto scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Augusto is rocked!
Gomez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Augusto can do to turn this around?
A big right followed by a crushing left from Gomez knocks Augusto out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!

After the fight, Rafael Gomez was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
