Freedom's entrance music is Star Spangled Banner. A fine choice. Alves has chosen Trik Turner - Friends and Family as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 26 - 3, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chip Freedom!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Freddy Alves!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Freedom.
Freedom scores with a punch to the head.
Alves throws a right hand that Freedom ducks under and follows up with a left that Freedom also avoids with ease.
Alves looks to land a combination. Freedom sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Chip Freedom has been cut.
Freedom misses with a wild body shot.
Alves scores with a three punch combo!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Freedom moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Freedom tries to clinch there but Alves circles away.
Freedom misses with a lunging right hand

and Alves counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
A short body shot lands from Alves as the two fighters clinch.
Freedom looking to throw knees to the head but Alves is blocking nicely.
Alves tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Freedom's elbow.
Freedom is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee calls for Freedom to work.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Chip Freedom.
Alves scores with a crisp jab that stopped Freedom in his tracks.
Freedom lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Alves blocks a head kick by Freedom.
Freedom misses with the combination.
A combination from Alves does no damage.
Alves uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Freedom.
Alves closes the distance and lands a one-two.


Freedom is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Freedom tries to get into range but Alves steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Freedom! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Alves scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Freddy Alves!
Freddy Alves is the new lightweight champion!
A relieved looking Freddy Alves thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
