PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Fletcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: dos santos vs velasquez. Cain Velasquez is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Fletcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Joseph Jones and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fletcher tries to clinch but Velasquez moves out of range.
Fletcher ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Velasquez cracks Fletcher with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Fletcher misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Velasquez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Velasquez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Velasquez avoids the body shot from Fletcher.
Fletcher closes the distance looking to clinch
and Velasquez counters with a big head kick but Fletcher shrugs it off.
A lazy left from Fletcher finds it's target.


It looks like Cain Velasquez has been cut.
Fletcher lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Fletcher fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Velasquez has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Fletcher clinches up with Velasquez and pushes him back against the cage.

Fletcher turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Velasquez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fletcher cracks Velasquez with a big right hand but Velasquez just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Fletcher throws a strike aimed at the side of Velasquez's head but Velasquez avoids it well.
You can see the frustration on Velasquez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fletcher wants to control but Velasquez is keeping him busy.
Check out the look on Fletcher's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Velasquez gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Fletcher tries to pass to full mount but Velasquez defends it.
Velasquez wants to control but Fletcher is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fletcher is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Velasquez keeping hold of Fletcher's head, controlling as best he can.

Fletcher postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Velasquez to stand up.

Good leg kick by Fletcher there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Fletcher tries to score a power double leg takedown but Velasquez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fletcher somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Fletcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fletcher throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Velasquez crashing down! Velasquez tries to stagger back to his feet but Fletcher just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Velasquez asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jack Fletcher!
After winning the bout, Jack Fletcher thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Cain Velasquez spoke after the fight, saying 'Next Time I Win 100 procent'.
