PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walker Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Lote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andy Lote told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walker Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andy Lote!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lote closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Reilly has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Lote regains guard immediately.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Lote working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Reilly.
Lote pulls Reilly in close to prevent any damage.
Lote is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lote seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Reilly pushes Lote off looking to stand but Lote dives back in and keeps control.
Lote trying to pass the guard but Reilly defending well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Lote's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Reilly is trying to stand up here but Lote is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lote prevents Reilly from improving his position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Andy Lote hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Lote closes the distance and pushes Reilly back into the cage.
Reilly is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Lote is keeping busy.

Lote breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Lote throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Lote takes the fight into the clinch.

Lote is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Reilly can't fight it off and eventually Lote manages to take the fight to the floor. Reilly looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Reilly is trying to control the position but Lote postures up.
Lote passes Reilly's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Lote is looking for a kimura here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lote connects with a nice short shot to Reilly's temple.

Lote prevents Reilly from standing back up.
Reilly gets back to full guard.
Lote preventing the sweep.
Lote won't allow Reilly to get back to his feet.
Reilly keeping moving, preventing Lote from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Lote is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Lote with a flurry of punches that miss.
Reilly wants to stand but Lote is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Andy Lote was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Lote changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reilly looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Reilly is looking for a sweep.
Reilly might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Reilly is breathing heavily.
Reilly is working hard here to advance position.

Lote decides to stand back up. Lote steps back and let's Reilly get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reilly tries a low kick but Lote avoids it.

Lote clinches up with Reilly and pushes him back against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lote is trying to trip Reilly. He has hold of a leg but Reilly is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lote persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Reilly wants to stand and escape but Lote is having none of it.
Lote is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andy Lote dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Lote shoots in and bounces Reilly off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lote throws a big elbow that misses.
Reilly is trying to keep Lote in close.

Lote decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Reilly gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Lote counter with a right hand.

Lote shoots in and gets a takedown into Reilly's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lote stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Lote is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Reilly's half guard.
Reilly looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Reilly is not content to let Lote control the position.
Lote prevents Reilly from improving his position.
Lote with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Andy Lote wasn't active enough on the ground.

Lote closes the distance and clinches.
Reilly is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Lote tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Reilly's elbow.
Reilly trying to stall but Lote improves his position.

Lote manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Lote seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Lote wants to sweep here but Reilly controlling him for the moment.

Andy Lote has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Reilly wants to clinch.

Reilly gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lote to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Lote decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Reilly, up you get!

Reilly tries for a takedown but Lote sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Reilly trying to stall but Lote improves his position.
Reilly controlling the action here for a moment.

Lote pulls guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lote is trying to keep Reilly in close.

Reilly postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lote is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Reilly, into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andy Lote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Reilly tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Lote presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Reilly tries to lock up and control but Lote gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Reilly is desperately trying to improve his position but Lote has a good base and remains in mount.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lote drops a big elbow. That's hurt Reilly! More shots from Lote and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
