PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Morten Iversen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Corpuz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Iversen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Mastodon - Iron Tusk. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Morten Iversen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Corpuz!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iversen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Corpuz as he avoids it easily.
Iversen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Corpuz moves away.
Iversen cracks a nice hook into Corpuz's ribs.
Iversen shoots for a takedown but Corpuz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Corpuz should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Corpuz slips a jab and a cross from Iversen.

Corpuz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Corpuz looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Iversen connecting with a few gentle strikes.
Iversen wants to control but Corpuz is keeping busy.
Corpuz works his way into side control.
Corpuz tries to advance to mount but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Iversen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Corpuz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Corpuz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Iversen feints and as Corpuz raises his hands in defense, Iversen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Iversen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Corpuz on the ground.
Iversen wants to stand but Corpuz is controlling his posture from full guard.
Iversen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Iversen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Corpuz looks gassed!
Corpuz is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Iversen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Iversen slows the pace down in half guard.
Iversen wants to control but Corpuz is keeping him busy.
Iversen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Corpuz is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Iversen looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mark Corpuz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Corpuz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Iversen looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Iversen looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Iversen!

Iversen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Corpuz has hold of Iversen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Iversen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Iversen tries to lock up and control but Corpuz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Iversen lands an elbow.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Iversen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Corpuz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mark Corpuz.
I've got Corpuz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
