PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zach Smack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Mackenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zach Smack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jesse Mackenzie!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Reed Andrews and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mackenzie throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Smack looks for a takedown but Mackenzie sprawls well.
Smack throws a left and a right that both miss

and Mackenzie counters with a shoot takedown. Smack fights it but they end up in guard.

Mackenzie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smack dives on top into guard.
Mackenzie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mackenzie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smack doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smack manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mackenzie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smack passes into side control.

Smack decides to stand back up. Smack steps back and let's Mackenzie get back to his feet.
Smack doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Mackenzie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mackenzie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smack's guard.

Mackenzie escapes and gets back to his feet.
Smack misses with a takedown
and Mackenzie counters with a head kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zach Smack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smack is breathing heavily.

Mackenzie fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smack, pushing him back against the cage.

Mackenzie breaks from the clinch.
Smack closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mackenzie circles away.

Smack changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mackenzie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mackenzie is looking to regain half guard here but Smack keeps moving and retains side control.
Mackenzie manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mackenzie is pressing down on Smack's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mackenzie throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Mackenzie has a closed guard, preventing Smack from standing up.
Smack stopping the sweep attempt from Mackenzie.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mackenzie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mackenzie stops Smack from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mackenzie decides to stand up.

Mackenzie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mackenzie creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Smack explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Mackenzie gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Smack gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Mackenzie moves out of range of the strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mackenzie wants to clinch up but Smack keeps it at a distance.

Mackenzie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Smack wants to get back to his feet.
Smack might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mackenzie landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Mackenzie dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Smack fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Smack misses with a double jab

and Mackenzie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smack won't be happy with that.
Smack tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Smack is taking damage to the body and head.

Mackenzie is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Smack taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Mackenzie.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jesse Mackenzie!
