PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eza Nahka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Chow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eza Nahka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Chow!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chow misses with a head kick.
Nahka shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chow as he jumps to the side.
Chow fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nahka takes a swing at Chow's ribcage but misses.
Chow tries to clinch up but Nahka circles away and keeps his distance.

and Nahka counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Chow had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Nahka is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Chow Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Nahka's back instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chow doesn't have the hooks in and Nahka manages to turn into his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nahka not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Chow wants to sweep but no luck.

Chow is looking for a triangle but Nahka pushes his legs off easily.
Nahka throwing strikes but missing.
Nahka has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Nahka trying to control but Chow is working from the bottom.

Nahka drops back looking for a leg! Chow is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chow manages to kick Nahka off! Nahka jumps back into Chow's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nahka throwing strikes but missing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Chow closes the distance looking to clinch
letting Nahka counter with a right hand.
Chow tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Nahka counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Chow looks gassed!

Nahka drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chow dives on top into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chow wants to pass the guard but Nahka is keeping the position.
Nahka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nahka pushes Chow off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Nahka shoots in for a takedown but Chow shows good takedown defense.

Nahka has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Nahka wants to control the pace but Chow is squirming around nicely.
Nahka is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Nahka scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eza Nahka dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Nahka closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nahka throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Nahka looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Chow with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Chow trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Nahka manages to pass to mount!

Nahka has control of Chow's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chow regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Chow is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chow slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Nahka working over Chow with some ground and pound. Chow looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Nahka controlling the action here.
Nahka looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Chow with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nahka works his foot free and advances to mount.
Nahka cracks Chow with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nahka with shots to the head and body - Chow looks very uncomfortable down there.
Nahka lands a big shot there that rocks Chow but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Nahka is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Nahka scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Nahka perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Nahka working the head and body with strikes.
Nahka is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nahka landing strikes from the mount and Chow is in trouble!
Nahka has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Chow's face.
Nahka is landing with some decent strikes but Chow is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Nahka takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Chow is squirming around, avoiding Nahka's attempts to control the action.
Nahka controlling the position easily from mount.
Nahka lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nahka connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Nahka fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Nahka looking to control and managing it successfully.
Nahka pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Nahka postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Chow looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eza Nahka dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Nahka is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Nahka controlling the action here.
Chow is trying to get back to full guard.

Nahka is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chow defends it well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nahka is nestled in close to Chow, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Nahka is thwarting Chow's attempts to control the position.
Nahka wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chow keeps working.
Nahka wants to pass the guard but Chow is defending well.
Nahka slows the pace down in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Nahka is trying for a kimura here. Chow looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Nahka wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Eza Nahka!
