PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Norbert Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alden Ho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Norbert Lopez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alden Ho!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ho drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Lopez is looking for a sweep.
Ho takes a little break here. Lopez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Lopez can't do much from the bottom here.
Ho content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Let's hope that Ho has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alden Ho wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ho throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lopez.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Lopez. No joy for Ho on that attempt.

Ho rushes Lopez and presses him up against the cage.
Ho drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The referee calls for Ho to work.
Ho has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lopez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Norbert Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alden Ho.
Lopez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ho prevents it.

Lopez missing with knees to the body.

Ho has Lopez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ho pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Lopez tumbling to the mat - Ho dives into Lopez's guard.
Ho is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Lopez wants to sweep here but Ho controlling him for the moment.
Lopez is trying to control the position but Ho postures up.
Ho controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Lopez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ho passes into half guard.

It looks like Ho might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Alden Ho hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Lopez throws a series of punches but Ho avoids them all with ease.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ho dives in and grabs Lopez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lopez pushes down on Ho's head and hops out.
Lopez misses with a wild body shot.
Lopez is looking to clinch.
Lopez lands a jab to Ho's midsection.
Lopez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lopez rushes Ho and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lopez tries to throw a body punch but Ho avoids it by throwing Lopez back against the cage.

Ho has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Lopez regains guard immediately.
Ho tries to free his leg and advance position but Lopez is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alden Ho dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Lopez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ho throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lopez's waist but Lopez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ho off to one side.
Ho misses with a takedown attempt - Lopez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Ho decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lopez's guard.
Lopez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ho slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Lopez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ho slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alden Ho was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Ho scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Ho is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ho scores with a couple of short elbows.

Ho tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ho has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ho tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Ho in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Lopez struggling a bit here.

Ho just content to control the position.
Ho lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Lopez down.
Ho is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Lopez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Lopez wants to control but Ho postures up.
Ho is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Lopez's shoulder. That is not cool.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alden Ho was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ho shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lopez as he jumps to the side.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lopez closes the distance but Ho moves to the side
and Ho counters with a three punch combo that has Lopez backing up. Lopez nods at Ho to acknowledge the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alden Ho showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Lopez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lopez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ho after a bit of a struggle.
Ho tries a knee to the head but Lopez blocks it.
Lopez lands a right hand.
Ho controlling the action here for a moment.

Ho avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lopez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lopez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Lopez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ho circles away quickly and effectively.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ho fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lopez avoids it really well and circles away.
Norbert Lopez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alden Ho.
Lopez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ho.
Lopez wants to clinch
and Ho counters with a stiff right hand.
Lopez lands with a shot to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alden Ho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ho winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
