PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vern Moses (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kory Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kory Brown was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vern Moses!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kory Brown!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Bruno Hogan and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Brown with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Brown looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Brown tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Brown throwing shots but Moses is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Moses is not content to let Brown control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kory Brown hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Brown throws a push kick but Moses slaps the foot to one side.

Brown shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Moses napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Brown remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Moses wants to get back to his feet but Brown drags him back down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Moses is letting Brown control him for a moment.
Brown wants to control but Moses is keeping him busy.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kory Brown hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Moses tries to clinch but Brown is having none of it.

Brown closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brown lands in his opponent's guard.
Brown is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brown wants to control from the top but Moses keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kory Brown.

Brown throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Moses was covering up waiting for the punch and Brown finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Brown pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Moses is keeping the position for now.

Brown gets to his feet. Moses looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Moses paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Brown shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Moses napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Brown has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Brown takes the fight into the clinch.
Moses avoids a wild elbow strike from Brown.

Moses breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brown looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Brown decides to stand and escape the position.

Brown shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Brown is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Moses is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Moses has escaped and now he's on top!
Moses throws a strike but Brown rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Brown stays in close to Moses's body and controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brown is standing up over Moses. Moses looks to escape but Brown dives into side control.

Brown is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Moses is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Brown trying to control the action but Moses is working from the bottom.
Moses could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Moses trying to remain calm as Brown controls from the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Moses is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Brown is controlling him well.

Brown decides to stand up, so the ref orders Moses to his feet.

Brown shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moses blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kory Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Brown shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Brown was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Moses on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Moses pushes Brown away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Brown gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Brown passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Moses!

Brown goes for an armbar but Moses turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Moses.
Moses throws a strike but Brown rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Brown missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Moses can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Moses is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brown is controlling him.

Moses is working an open guard so Brown takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Moses shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Brown pinned against the cage. Brown gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Brown closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brown lands in his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Moses can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace.

Brown decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Brown throws a sloppy head kick and Moses moves out of range easily.
Vern Moses is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brown closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Moses quickly recovers to half guard.

Moses manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Brown keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brown manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Brown is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Moses trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom.
Brown preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Vern Moses has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kory Brown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kory Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Kory Brown started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
