PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Josh West.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from Rodriguez both land. Nice combination.
Rodriguez stalks Smith and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Smith's face. Smith staggers backwards, shaken.
Rodriguez throws a combination. Smith tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Smith looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Rodriguez changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Rodriguez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Rodriguez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Smith has momentary wrist control but Rodriguez slips an elbow through the middle.
We've been hearing that Rodriguez has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Smith pulls Rodriguez in close to his closed guard and prevents Rodriguez from doing any damage or advancing position.

We're going to have a standup here because Juan Rodriguez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Rodriguez wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Smith.

Smith with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Rodriguez is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Rodriguez will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rodriguez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Smith throws a leg kick
and Rodriguez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Rodriguez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Smith is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Smith tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Rodriguez counters with a two punch combo.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
Smith wants to clinch.
Rodriguez with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Juan Rodriguez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smith napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Smith seems to be working for a kimura but Rodriguez defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Rodriguez is defending well.

Smith has an Americana. Rodriguez didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Smith is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Smith hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

A less than humble Ricardo Smith misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
