Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Piper has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Piper!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Piper rushes Cooper and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Piper can't break the clinch.

Piper breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cooper tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Piper swivels and escapes.
Piper misses with a double jab.
Piper tries for a takedown but Cooper circles away easily

and Cooper counters with a nice double leg into side control. Piper won't be happy with that.
Cooper tries to advance to mount but Piper denies him.
Piper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cooper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Piper is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cooper is controlling him well.

Piper sneaks out the side door and pushes Cooper away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Piper looks to land a combination but Cooper avoids it well.

Piper closes the distance and clinches.
Cooper has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Piper avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Piper is trying to break the clinch but Cooper has him pressed against the cage.

Cooper can't get the takedown.

Piper is pressed up against the cage. Cooper has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Piper down to the mat. Piper avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Piper throws a head kick but Cooper moves out of range.
James Piper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cooper misses with a takedown attempt - Piper sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Cooper counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Cooper is breathing heavily.
Piper is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cooper is controlling him.
Cooper has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cooper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cooper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cooper decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Piper, up you get!
Cooper closes the distance and clinches up with Piper, looking for a takedown. Cooper pushes Piper against the cage but Piper circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Piper throws a head kick that misses.

and Cooper decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Piper's guard.
Cooper prevents Piper from getting back to his feet.
Cooper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Piper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cooper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cooper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Piper can't keep his opponent in guard - Cooper advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cooper is looking to advance position but Piper won't allow it.

Cooper is looking for a kimura but Piper is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cooper to get the leverage.
Cooper trying to control from half guard but Piper is working away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cooper works his foot free and advances to mount.

Cooper gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cooper tries for a takedown but Piper sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Cooper shoots for a double leg takedown but Piper sprawls well. He's pushed Cooper's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cooper walks into a jab.
Piper misses with a two punch combination.
Piper will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Piper throws a sloppy head kick and Cooper moves out of range easily.
Cooper shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cooper wants a takedown but no success here.
Piper is breathing heavily.

and Cooper counters with a shoot takedown. Piper fights it but they end up in guard.
Cooper wants to control from the top but Piper keeps moving.

Piper looks to score with a jab to the body but Cooper is just out of range.
Piper stuffs the takedown.

Piper doesn't manage to clinch there - Cooper circles away.

Cooper advances to half guard.
Cooper frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Cooper quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Cooper but it's paid off an Piper is forced to tap! Nice work by Cooper.
