The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
VanDerbeek fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
VanDerbeek missing with a left hand there. Beard was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Beard takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
VanDerbeek is looking to land body kicks.
VanDerbeek motions for Beard to come forward. VanDerbeek throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Steve VanDerbeek seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

VanDerbeek clinches with his opponent.

VanDerbeek wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Beard has him pressed against the cage.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Beard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by VanDerbeek, who protects the arm well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

VanDerbeek tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Beard was well out of range. Poor timing from VanDerbeek.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Beard.
Beard tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and VanDerbeek avoids it.

Beard breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by VanDerbeek as Beard tries to tie him up.
Beard tries to work over VanDerbeek's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
VanDerbeek has had enough of the clinch but Beard keeps him there for the moment.

Beard content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
VanDerbeek lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Beard!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Beard wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by VanDerbeek.
Beard is desperately trying to improve his position but VanDerbeek has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

VanDerbeek swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Beard is now in VanDerbeek's guard. A big mistake from VanDerbeek there, giving up the dominant position!

Beard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
VanDerbeek is looking to reverse the position.

Tyson Beard's cut is getting worse.

VanDerbeek drops Beard onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Beard is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!

Jeez, Tyson Beard's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Beard stalling.
Oh Beard is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

VanDerbeek manages to break the clinch.
VanDerbeek lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Beard out cold! Beard is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!
