The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hughes drops Payton with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Payton looks back up at him and smiles so Hughes waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
It looks like Walter Payton has been cut.
Payton uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hughes.
Hughes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Payton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hughes as he jumps to the side.
Hughes fails to land with a series of punches.
Hughes lands a slapping body shot.
Payton looks gassed!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Payton is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Hughes doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Payton crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Payton's bad books for that mishap!
