Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brant Poole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teddy Barton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Teddy Barton!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Poole shoots in and gets a takedown into Barton's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Barton working a defensive guard but Poole manages to pass into side control anyway.

Poole has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Barton dives in and scores a takedown into Poole's guard.
Barton won't allow Poole to get back to his feet.
Barton is fighting to break Poole's control of his arms but Poole is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Poole keeping moving, preventing Barton from controlling successfully.

Poole is looking for a triangle but Barton pushes his legs off easily.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Teddy Barton wasn't active enough on the ground.

Barton creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Poole sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Poole bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Barton explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Barton tries to close the distance and clinch but Poole swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A combination from Barton does no damage.

Barton fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Poole to the ground. Barton is now in Poole's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barton wants to control from the top but Poole keeps moving.

Teddy Barton has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Barton shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Poole's guard.
Poole is breathing heavily.

Barton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Barton stands up and waves to Poole to follow him.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Barton looking to sit in guard and control but Poole gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Poole stands and steps away. Barton gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Barton feints and as Poole raises his hands in defense, Barton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Poole has his feet on Barton's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Barton pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Barton is looking to clinch.

Barton falls off balance throwing a combination

and Poole counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Poole.
Barton is breathing heavily.
Poole throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Poole stands up over Barton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Barton wants to stand but Poole is controlling the position.

Poole stands up from Barton's guard - Poole perhaps looking for a knockout.
Barton tries to clinch there but Poole circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barton misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Poole has a closed guard, preventing Barton from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Teddy Barton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Poole postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Barton throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Poole tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Barton is in Poole's guard.

Barton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barton tries to pass to full mount but Poole defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brant Poole.
Barton throws a right hand that Poole ducks under and follows up with a left that Poole also avoids with ease.

Poole is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Barton is defending well for now.

Barton decides to pull guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Poole decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Barton, up you get!

Poole trying to control the position but instead, Barton has worked for underhooks and has pushed Poole into the cage.
Poole is working for takedown but Barton is calmly controlling the position for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Poole is looking to control Barton's arms but Barton gets an underhook and turns him. Now Poole has his back to the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Barton gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Barton wants to stand up but Poole has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Brant Poole has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Teddy Barton is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Poole is staying active underneath Barton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brant Poole.
I think Barton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
