PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Adam Barton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Edmonds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adam Barton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Edmonds!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barton fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Edmonds closes the distance and pushes Barton back into the cage.
Barton wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Edmonds has him pressed against the cage.
Edmonds is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Barton manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Barton doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barton keeping full guard, as Edmonds tries to pass.
Edmonds content to stall in guard here.
Edmonds really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Let's hope that Edmonds has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
It looks like Edmonds might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jake Edmonds has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Barton looks for a takedown but Edmonds sprawls well.

Barton shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Edmonds's guard.

Edmonds had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Barton defends it easily.

Barton gets to his feet. Edmonds looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Barton shoots in for a takedown but Edmonds shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Barton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Edmonds drives through with a takedown into Barton's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Barton manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Edmonds tries to lock up and control but Barton gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Edmonds is squirming around, avoiding Barton's attempts to control the action.
Edmonds wants to control but Barton is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Edmonds's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Barton punching from mount but Edmonds doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Barton trying to control but Edmonds is having none of it.
Barton thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Barton lands a couple of good shots and Edmonds has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Edmonds really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Barton's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barton is hanging on to Edmonds's back as he tries to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Edmonds is still trying to improve position.
Edmonds keeps trying to improve his position.

Edmonds looking very determined here, making life difficult for Barton.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Barton is really struggling to control Edmonds but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Edmonds trying to control the hands but Barton won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Adam Barton will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Barton throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Edmonds looks to land a body kick but Barton moved away.

Barton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Barton is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Edmonds is trying to escape and Barton transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Edmonds is forced to tap! Nice work there by Barton! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Adam Barton!
