The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirk tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from Kirk.
Smith misses with an uppercut. Kirk saw that one coming.
Smith walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kirk checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Smith moves into the clinch.
Kirk prevents a body shot from Smith.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kirk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Kirk will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kirk moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Smith forces Kirk back against the cage and clinches.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Smith drives through with a takedown into Kirk's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Maurice Smith was stalling too much, according to the referee.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Smith working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maurice Smith really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Brazil War House (Laundry 90%) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
