Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akamu Kai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jay Jones will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Akamu Kai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Jones!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kai paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kai looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kai has a takedown stuffed.

Jones gets a takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Jones thows a huge punch but Kai dodges it nicely.
Kai might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jones trying to control the action but Kai is working from the bottom.
Kai is looking to improve his position.
Kai gets full guard.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Kai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kai controlling the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jay Jones.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kai sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones trying to control the action but Kai is working from the bottom.
Kai wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kai makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kai.
Jones stays in close to Kai's body and controls the position.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Kai is retaining full guard.
Kai pulls Jones in to control the position.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Kai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kai on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kai tries to get out of the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jay Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Kai looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kai scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Jones flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kai looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kai prevents Jones from standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kai lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Jones tries to get to full guard but Kai has control of the leg.
Jones trying to control but Kai postures up.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jones is looking to escape.
Kai throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.

Kai is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Kai eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jay Jones will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kai throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kai!
Kai tries to reverse the position but Jones maintains control.
Kai regains half guard.

Kai regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Jones.

Kai is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Akamu Kai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kai has control of Jones's left arm, preventing Jones from doing any damage.
Jones controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Akamu Kai.

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kai on his heels. He'll look to pass Kai's guard now, I'm sure.
Jones wants to control from the top but Kai keeps moving.
Kai wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.

Kai is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kai is pulling down on Jones's head. It's preventing any offense from Jones, at least for the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kai has his hands on Jones's head, controlling the position.
Jones wants to control from the top but Kai keeps moving.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jay Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kai is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kai is trying to get back to full guard.
Kai trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jay Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Kai tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kai throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

Kai fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Kai is now in Jones's guard.

Kai won't allow Jones to get back to his feet.
Kai won't allow Jones to sweep him here.

Jones has his foot on Kai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kai works his way back into a safe position though.
Kai lands a couple of elbows.
Kai postures up.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kai trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kai postures up and lands a big shot to Jones's brow.
Jones trying to control the position.

Kai drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jones dives on top into guard.
Kai is trying to keep Jones in close.

Kai fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.

Jones dives in and scores a takedown into Kai's guard.

Kai throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kai is in Jones's guard.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Kai postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jones is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kai, into his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Akamu Kai.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
