PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between George McFly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bunny Anstey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anstey has chosen Friends in lower places as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bunny Anstey was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George McFly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bunny Anstey!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anstey keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McFly.

McFly moves into range and clinches up with Anstey.
McFly tries to work over Anstey's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Anstey prevents a body shot from McFly.
McFly is pushing Anstey up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
McFly working aggressively here.
Anstey is working for takedown but McFly is calmly controlling the position for now.
Anstey goes for a takedown in the clinch but McFly prevents it.

Anstey has hold of one of McFly's legs. McFly is fighting the takedown attempt but Anstey gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
McFly is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Anstey content to stall in guard here.
McFly wants to get back to his feet but Anstey is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Anstey uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McFly.
Anstey has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as McFly is landing a low percentage of strikes.
McFly throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Anstey sees it coming and avoids it easily.
McFly slaps away a takedown attempt from Anstey, before circling back to the center of the mat.
George McFly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bunny Anstey.

Anstey closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Anstey seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Anstey counters with a head kick.
McFly takes a swing at Anstey's ribcage but misses.
Anstey moves forwards but McFly connects with a nice, crisp jab.


It looks like Bunny Anstey has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Anstey slips a straight right by McFly.
McFly throws a lazy right hand but Anstey sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

McFly gets in close and instigates a clinch.

McFly misses with some punches.
Anstey blocks a body shot from McFly.
Anstey fails to pull the fight into his guard.
McFly lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Anstey backwards.
Anstey tries to score a body lock takedown but McFly shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Anstey blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Anstey blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Anstey wants a takedown but no success here.
McFly can't find room to land a body shot as Anstey controls the action.
McFly misses with a punch on the inside.
Anstey drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McFly gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A looping hook to the body misses from McFly. Anstey does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Anstey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Anstey won't allow McFly to get back to his feet.

Anstey controls from within his opponent's guard.
Anstey postures up in McFly's guard and throws a big left but McFly blocks it.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Anstey's corner is telling him to maintain position.

We're going to have a standup here because George McFly wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Anstey uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McFly.
Anstey tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McFly swivels and escapes.

McFly leaves Anstey with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Anstey counters with a left and a right that stings McFly.
McFly fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McFly tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Anstey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Anstey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McFly tries to avoid it but Anstey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McFly to the ground. McFly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
George McFly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bunny Anstey.

Anstey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

McFly is pressed up against the cage. Anstey has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McFly down to the mat. McFly avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
McFly thows a body shot but no joy.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Anstey.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
McFly lands on the inside with an uppercut.
McFly misses with a punch to the body.
McFly trying to control the position but instead, Anstey has worked for underhooks and has pushed McFly into the cage.

Anstey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


McFly thuds a left hand into Anstey's body.
McFly fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Anstey manages to avoid it.
Anstey swats away the attempt to clinch by McFly.

McFly cracks Anstey with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. McFly has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Anstey to stand back up!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Anstey steps to the side to avoid the strikes from McFly.
McFly throws a sloppy body shot

and Anstey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McFly's guard.
McFly seems keen to control Anstey's posture.
Anstey trying to control but McFly is working from the bottom.
McFly seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Bunny Anstey has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

George McFly has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
McFly misses the shot to the body.
McFly lands a slapping body shot.
George McFly is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McFly throws a body punch but Anstey moves out of range.

Anstey shoots in and gets a takedown into McFly's guard.
Anstey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
McFly wants to stand up but Anstey is controlling him.

The cut above Bunny Anstey's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McFly throws a combination that misses
and Anstey counters with a three punch combo that has McFly backing up. McFly nods at Anstey to acknowledge the strikes.

and Anstey counters with a takedown into side control.

Anstey prevents McFly from escaping the position.

Anstey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Anstey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on McFly's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Anstey is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McFly will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McFly tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Anstey wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
McFly is trying to control Anstey's posture but Anstey avoids it.
McFly is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

George McFly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Anstey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Anstey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McFly, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
