PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Picton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Red Mike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Picton might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to some emo trash. The key to victory for Kevin Picton has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 10 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kevin Picton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Red Mike!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Picton lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Picton swinging wildly here.
Picton lands a head kick!
Picton keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Picton throws a body punch but Mike moves out of range.
Mike pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Picton avoids the head kick by Mike.

Mike darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Picton is breathing heavily.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Mike content to control rather than advance.
Picton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mike is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mike escapes and gets back to his feet.
Picton throws a series of punches but Mike moves out of range.
Mike tries to land a front kick but Picton steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Picton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Mike closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Picton did well to prevent Mike getting side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mike tries to pass the half guard into mount. Picton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mike wants to control but Picton is keeping him busy.

Mike stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Mike throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kevin Picton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mike will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mike fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Picton to the ground. Mike is now in Picton's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mike controlling from the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mike gets to his feet - Picton follows without any prompting.

Mike has closed the distance and engaged Picton in a clinch.
Picton tries to pull guard but Mike holds him up against the cage and eventually Picton drops back down to his feet.

Mike breaks the clinch.

Mike gets a takedown into half guard.
Mike throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mike sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mike not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mike is keen to just control but Picton is a slippery customer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mike missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Mike works his way into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Red Mike dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Mike fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Picton to the ground. Mike is now in Picton's guard.
Picton looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mike throwing strikes but missing.
Mike throwing strikes from guard but Picton blocks nicely.
Mike showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Red Mike.
Mike misses with a wild combination.
Mike throws a half hearted mid kick.

Mike drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Picton is not content to let Mike control the position.
Mike throws an elbow but Picton slips to the side and avoids it well.
Red Mike has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mike stands up.
Picton swinging wildly here.
Mike throws a series of punches but Picton moves out of range.

Mike feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mike stands up from guard. Let's bang!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mike throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Picton was covering up waiting for the punch and Mike finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mike advances to half guard.
Picton won't allow Mike to pass to mount.
Mike sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Picton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mike decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Picton looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mike throws a push kick but Picton slaps the foot to one side.
Picton swats away the attempt to clinch by Mike.
Nice takedown defense from Picton. No joy for Mike on that attempt.
Mike misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Picton scores with a leg kick.

Mike closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Picton's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Red Mike showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Mike fails with an attempt to clinch.

Mike closes the distance and clinches.

Mike gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Mike is looking to take a break and control but Picton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mike missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Picton has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mike is working away from the top position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mike passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Picton!
Picton holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Mike tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Mike tries to control but Picton wriggling away.
Mike looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mike working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Mike is working for a guillotine from mount but Picton frees his head quite easily.
Mike throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mike lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mike controlling from the full mount.

Mike working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Picton turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mike off and cradles Picton's limp body as Mike celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Red Mike!
The defeated Kevin Picton had this to say: 'I would like to thank my manager for sucking so bad, this defeat goes to you angry dude!'.
