PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Adam Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robb Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Ali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robb Wells!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wells slips under a jab.
Wells waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ali.
Wells with a poor takedown
and Ali connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wells fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ali avoids it really well and circles away.
Wells dives in for a single leg takedown but Ali sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Adam Ali has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robb Wells.
Ali pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Ali is defending well against a takedown attempt.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Ali.

Ali drags the fight down to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Wells stops Ali from standing up.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Ali manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Ali has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wells uses from the top position.

Ali is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Wells presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Ali prevents a takedown attempt there.

Ali breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wells fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Wells shoots in and gets a takedown into Ali's guard.
Wells prevents Ali from getting back to his feet.
Wells wants to control from the top but Ali keeps moving.
Wells is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Robb Wells was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Ali has Wells up against the cage in a clinch.

Ali pulls guard.
Ali keeping moving, preventing Wells from controlling successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ali is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ali is breathing heavily.
Wells is pushing down on Ali's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ali is fighting to maintain full guard but Wells has managed to sneak the leg through.

Wells is looking for a kimura here.

Wells frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Wells has control of Ali's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Ali regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Wells looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Wells wants to finish this one by submission but Ali is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Wells.
Wells looking to control but Ali is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wells is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ali is surviving well by controlling Wells's body position as best he can.
Wells won't let Ali get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Ali knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wells on the ground.
Ali is squirming around, avoiding Wells's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ali is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Robb Wells will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wells blocks the body kick.

Wells shoots in and bounces Ali off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Wells is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ali is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ali has escaped and now he's on top!
Ali wants to stand and escape but instead Wells has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Wells wants to pass the guard but Ali is keeping the position.
Wells trying to control but Ali is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ali wants to stand up but Wells is controlling him.

Wells drops back looking for a leg! Ali is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ali manages to kick Wells off! Wells jumps back into Ali's guard.
Ali keeping moving, preventing Wells from controlling successfully.
Ali is looking to stand up but Wells isn't so interested in that idea.
Ali is looking to stand back up but Wells counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Ali.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wells trying to control the action but Ali is working from the bottom.
Ali wants to get back to his feet.
Wells is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ali is staying active underneath Wells, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Robb Wells has got the better of the ground game so far.

Wells is looking for a kimura but Ali is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wells to get the leverage.

Wells is trying to work for a kimura but Ali is defending well.
Ali pushes Wells off looking to stand but Wells dives back in and keeps control.

Wells is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ali doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wells.

Wells is trying to work for a kimura but Ali is defending well.
Ali pushes Wells off looking to stand but Wells dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wells looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ali pushes Wells off but Wells dives into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Wells looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Wells has hold of Ali's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Ali seems comfortable defending it but Wells has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Ali is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Ali is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Wells couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Robb Wells!
A relieved looking Robb Wells thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Adam Ali stepped up to the mic, saying 'My ish bang bro, win some, some not. I'll be back fam. '.
