Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Taylor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikhail Nikolaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mikhail Nikolaev has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jonathan Taylor's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jonathan Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mikhail Nikolaev!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikolaev swinging wildly here.

Nikolaev fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Taylor, pushing him back against the cage.
Taylor blocks an uppercut.
Nikolaev doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Taylor fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Nikolaev lands a shoulder strike.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Taylor.
Taylor jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nikolaev walks away with a smile on his face. Taylor gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Taylor fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nikolaev bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Taylor's head backwards.
Taylor shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nikolaev sprawls well. Nikolaev wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Taylor gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonathan Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nikolaev has closed the distance and engaged Taylor in a clinch.

Taylor has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Nikolaev uses from the top position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Taylor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nikolaev wanted to stand there but Taylor had control of the position.

Nikolaev wants to stand but Taylor has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Nikolaev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nikolaev wants to stand and escape but instead Taylor has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Nikolaev wants to stand and escape but Taylor is having none of it.

Taylor drops back looking for a leg! Nikolaev is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nikolaev manages to kick Taylor off! Taylor jumps back into Nikolaev's guard.
Taylor pushes down on Nikolaev's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Nikolaev keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Taylor is looking to take a break and control but Nikolaev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nikolaev pushes Taylor off looking to stand but Taylor dives back in and keeps control.
Taylor not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Taylor thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Taylor is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nikolaev!
Nikolaev is squirming around, avoiding Taylor's attempts to control the action.

Taylor with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nikolaev can do anything to dispel that myth.

Taylor has control of Nikolaev's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Nikolaev regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Taylor is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Nikolaev can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Taylor throws some wild stikes that Nikolaev manages to avoid easily.

Taylor has control of Nikolaev's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Nikolaev regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Taylor looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jonathan Taylor will probably get the nod.

Nikolaev closes the distance and clinches.
Taylor is trying to pull guard but Nikolaev has him pressed against the cage.
Nikolaev looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Nikolaev goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Taylor tries to pull guard but Nikolaev holds him up against the cage and eventually Taylor drops back down to his feet.
Taylor tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Nikolaev smiles and moves away.

Mikhail Nikolaev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nikolaev scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Nikolaev tests Taylor's chin there with a solid looking shot.


It looks like Jonathan Taylor has been cut.
Taylor fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nikolaev smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Taylor takes one to the chin there.


Taylor is rocked!
Nikolaev lands a big uppercut and this one is all over! His foe lies motionless on the canvas - a massive one punch knockout!
