PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bud Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bud Light!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Light shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pettis is trying to defend but Light finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Light is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pettis is just riding it out for now. Light eventually gives up the hold.
Light lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Pettis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Light is working away from the top position though.
Light is trying to control. Pettis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Pettis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Light scores with a couple of nice shots.
Light tries to pass to full mount but Pettis defends it.
Light thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pettis's head.
Light misses with a head shot. Pettis uses the momentum to regain guard.
Light is in close to Pettis's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Light postures up in Pettis's guard and throws a big left but Pettis blocks it.
Light is stalling in the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pettis pulls Light in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Light is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Light working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Light trying to control but Pettis is working from the bottom.

Bud Light has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Light takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Light shoots in for a takedown but Pettis shows good takedown defense.
Pettis fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Light tries to clinch up but Pettis circles away and keeps his distance.
Light looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Pettis lands with an uppercut that bounces Light off the cage and back into range.

Light darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Light trying to mount his opponent but Pettis defends it.
Light is breathing heavily.
Light is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pettis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pettis.

Light drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pettis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Light has Pettis in his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pettis wants to get up but he can't break Light's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Light knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pettis on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pettis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pettis stands and throws Light's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bud Light dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pettis cracks Light with an open hand slap.
Pettis leaves Light with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pettis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pettis wants it to stay on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Light. No joy for Pettis on that attempt.
Light slaps away a takedown attempt from Pettis, before circling back to the center of the mat.
No luck for Light with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bud Light. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Light tries to clinch up.
Light closes the distance and clinches up with Pettis, looking for a takedown. Light pushes Pettis against the cage but Pettis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Light looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Light has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Light there as he acknowledges the shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light blocks a head kick by Pettis.
Pettis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Light swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Pettis throws a good cross that connects.


Light is rocked!
Pettis digs a good hook to Light's body.
Oh Light is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ohhhhhhhhhh, brutal head kick from Pettis! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Tony Pettis!
