Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jared Mcconnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Kirby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim Kirby is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jared Mcconnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Kirby!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kirby darts in and clinches Mcconnell up against the cage.
Mcconnell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kirby wants to get back to striking at distance but Mcconnell won't allow it.

Kirby breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kirby dives in and grabs Mcconnell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mcconnell pushes down on Kirby's head and hops out.
Kirby feints a jab promting Mcconnell to slip. Kirby then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mcconnell slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Jared Mcconnell has been cut.

Kirby shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Well, if Kirby is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Kirby is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mcconnell is looking to improve his position.
Kirby missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kirby is trying to control the action in half guard but Mcconnell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mcconnell is looking for a sweep. Kirby is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kirby wants to advance to full mount but Mcconnell doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Mcconnell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mcconnell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kirby controls the pace.

Kirby tries to free his leg and advance position but Mcconnell is retaining full guard.
Mcconnell keeping moving, preventing Kirby from controlling successfully.
Kirby controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jim Kirby wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mcconnell with a poor takedown
and Kirby counters with a three punch combo that has Mcconnell backing up. Mcconnell nods at Kirby to acknowledge the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mcconnell leaves Kirby with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kirby misses with a body kick.

Mcconnell shoots in for a double leg but Kirby sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kirby scores with a takedown into Mcconnell's guard.
Kirby trying to control but Mcconnell is working from the bottom.
Kirby wants to stand but Mcconnell is controlling his posture from full guard.
Mcconnell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kirby controls the pace.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Mcconnell working for submissions but it's allowed Kirby to get to half guard.

Kirby passes to full mount!
Kirby landing strikes, looking to finish!
Mcconnell looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kirby lands shots from the back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Jared Mcconnell's cut.

Kirby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mcconnell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kirby somewhat.

Kirby looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kirby looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mcconnell with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kirby takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mcconnell looking for a kimura from the bottom but Kirby passes into side control!
Kirby misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mcconnell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kirby wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mcconnell trying to remain calm as Kirby controls from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kirby trying to control the position but Mcconnell is working away.
The referee asks Kirby politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kirby prefers to stall for the moment though.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jim Kirby hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kirby keeps Mcconnell at a distance using the push kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kirby looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Kirby trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mcconnell's guard.
Kirby wants to control from the top but Mcconnell keeps moving.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kirby slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jim Kirby hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Kirby gets a double leg takedown into Mcconnell's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kirby passes into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kirby lands a nice short elbow.
Kirby passes the guard and advances to mount!
Kirby tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Kirby moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mcconnell has worked his arm free - good work by Mcconnell!

Mcconnell is trying to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kirby tries to stand but Mcconnell is controlling his head.
Kirby scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mcconnell to see if he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Kirby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mcconnell seems a little lost for a moment, as Kirby dominates the positioning.

Mcconnell dodges the ground and pound from Kirby.
Kirby has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kirby is looking to take a break and control but Mcconnell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kirby wants to stand but Mcconnell is controlling his arm.
Mcconnell is not content to let Kirby control the position.
Mcconnell is trying to improve his position.

Kirby working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kirby happy to just control the position for now.
Kirby looks up at the clock and then as Mcconnell takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kirby smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Kirby wants to stand but Mcconnell has his arm trapped.

Kirby has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Kirby drives through and clinches with Mcconnell against the cage.
Kirby on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Kirby works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Kirby is pushing down on Mcconnell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mcconnell is fighting to maintain full guard but Kirby has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kirby takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kirby works his way into full mount!
Kirby trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kirby takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Poor strikes thrown by Kirby there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kirby can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mcconnell is looking to escape.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jim Kirby comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kirby has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
