PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samuel French (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deshawn Hayden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deshawn Hayden told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samuel French!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deshawn Hayden!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Hayden misses

and French counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by French.
French lands a body punch in the clinch.
French wants to take the fight to the mat but Hayden manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

French manages to pull guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Hayden drops back looking for a leg! French is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and French manages to kick Hayden off! Hayden jumps back into French's guard.

Hayden thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hayden trying to control but French is working from the bottom.
French pulls Hayden in close to his closed guard and prevents Hayden from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hayden drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hayden jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hayden is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! French is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! French has escaped and now he's on top!

Hayden manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. French manages to get himself to full guard.

French wants to sweep here but Hayden controlling him for the moment.
French keeping moving, preventing Hayden from controlling successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Hayden throws a head kick but French moves out of range.
Deshawn Hayden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hayden changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. French tries to avoid it but Hayden manages to keep hold of a leg and drag French to the ground. French escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hayden looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Deshawn Hayden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hayden tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but French swivels and escapes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

French is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

I've got Hayden winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
